Collaboration – Can It Work in Blogging?
I posted an article on collaboration yesterday on Curious Voyager (the other blog) however last night I found myself thinking about creating a collaborative blog work.
Here is how my mind works.
We were out with a group of friends to dinner at a great spot in Mason, OH named Pitrelli’s Italian Cafe. Right off the top I think this place has great food as well as the best service. It truly is a very nice place to visit. I under stand they are moving to a bigger facility and I do hope they can keep their customer service and food preparation as it is. We have always been treated very well at Pitrelli’s and last night was no exception (loved the violin musician). We celebrated 4 April birthdays and I don’t think it could have been better. 8 GREAT friends, 4 couples (that was easy) with 4 being born in April – 3 female, 1 male. We all came away saying we would go back for any reason or no reason. It was really a wonderful evening. Thank you Pitrelli’s!
I could describe what we all had however that was not the reason for this post.
Now on to the collaborative blog idea.
Taking Cincinnati as the “place” I am thinking about asking people to contribute to “Cincinnati TTDO” or a “Cincinnati Things To Do” blog. One that would take in a variety of places or events in the area. Things to do, things to see, places to eat at and in general present the positive side of this area.
I know there are other blogs and or web sites however maybe we could be enough different that it would count.
The places or events do not have to be fancy or outlandish, just fun and enjoyable. Does not have to be food, could be a museum. It could also be a review of an event; the potato festival. Why not?
This must be a first person(s) review and we will only publish positive reviews. In other words if the place or event does not warrant a positive review we just won’t write about it.
At present I am considering 3 avenues to go.
- Avenue A: would be places or events we can reach in the evening and return.
- Avenue B: for weekends a day trip to a festival or other event within a radius that would allow us to go and return within the same day.
- Avenue C: to cover weekend trips Saturday and Sunday.
Each of these avenues would be tagged as such and would be able to be searched.
I will work more on this and get back to all. If anyone has thoughts please comment on the blog. At the moment YOU are the first to know. I’ll tell my wife when I get home. As usual I am working from Starbucks.

Small Issue with Blog Roll
On the left side of this blog is what is referred to as a Blog Roll and sometime over the weekend it disappeared. Not sure why or what happened however I am trying to get it back to it pre-weekend condition.
From the previous blog, this weekend is when I updated the connection so that one could use www.easeofblogging.com as the URL and perhaps something at that point caused it to crash. As luck would have it that is not one item I had backed up so have to rewrite it. You might keep in mind that a backup is a good thing.

Ease of Blogging Domain Name
I believe that in an earlier post I said that I had purchased the domain name “Ease of Blogging”. Since that was purchased at Godaddy I had to point the domain name to this blog. I accomplished that this morning however it may take 24 to 48 hours to process.
When the process is completed I can then publicize the blog at “easeofblogging.com” rather than “blogspot.easeofblogging.com”. It is actually easier for others as that is the more natural way of displaying your address and at the same time your blog is now on YOUR domain.
This whole process is actually easier if you buy your domain name through Blogger, they do all the background work for you and the total cost will be $10, the same as it was at Godaddy for me however I had to do all the work and it can get a little tricky.
Another advantage of purchasing your domain name at Blogger is that you will get a Google Apps Account for free at the same time.
The process to link the domain name to this blog took some time as I had to change a few things at Godaddy (CNAME & ANAME records) and then one thing at Blogger on the settings for my blog. You can find all the necessary information at Blogger by going to How do I use a custom domain on my blog?
My recommendation would be to let Blogger do it, much easier. I have a friend who says; “I like that word EASY”.

Thoughts On Blogging Startup
I have just finished reading a post regarding blogging tips to develop a unique position. I read it and then began to take issue with the wording of some of the tips (my prerogative). The article; “5 Blogging Tips for Developing a Unique Identity” and I am going to present my own slant on each of the tips. We all have our own view and this is mine.
Note: Perhaps my disagreement is more in semantics – it’s you decision. You can read the article and then read my response below and just read my feelings.
The first tip was Topic Selection after which was stated; “It is always good to select topics that have some sort of popularity with readers.” Personally it is always good to select topics that are close to my heart whether it be personal or business.
Blogging is one form of the ultimate niche market. I am not out here looking for a subject to start a blog on that you want to read that perhaps I have no interest in. I need to be into the subject, in the presence of it, and it must be meaningful to me first. That is the only way that I know what someone else interested in the same subject might want to read (or hear or see).
Second tip: Opinions offered. Now I agree with this one. You should have your own opinion that is what sets you apart. Not to be argumentive but to be able to express your feelings and thoughts and then through comments be able to hear and respond to others. Works for business as well as personal.
Blogging is a conversation and your blog is yours.
Third tip: Content quality. Well I might take issue here with the word’s; “…type of information that readers find intriguing, educational, humorous or useful.” If you do not find it intriguing, educational, humorous or useful don’t write about it. I repeat, if it isn’t you then don’t write it. This is your blog and you must feel that you are writing both for yourself as well as the reader. I am not saying to present an arrogant personality, there is always another view, however (again) this is your blog and your point of view.
Fourth tip: Timeliness of information: For the most part I will agree however there are times when it is worth repeating old news perhaps with a new slant. Bringing back a subject that perhaps did not get enough initial discussion and you have a reason to return to that well. Good, go for it. Dredge it back up however don’t just repeat old news, have something new to say. Don’t post just for the sake of posting.
If you heart isn’t into it take a break.
Last tip: Personality. I agree with the author here. “Everybody has a unique personality therefore use it to your advantage on your blog.” The author goes on to talk about humor, sarcasm, or tutorial delivery. Be yourself, write, talk and deliver who you are. Above all be comfortable with yourself and your presence.
