Your app likely won’t make you rich | Analysis & Opinion |

This article deals with app development however the concept will work for more than app's. It is a market first approach and you could use the same methodology for social media applications.

See what is being used, look for what is that you could bring to that market and make it better. Apply your tools and knowledge.

Many years ago (early 60's), when I was an assistant purchasing agent in a hospital in East Orange NJ, I saw a quotation by Thomas A. Edison; "There's a better way to do it better - find it!" I guess that could be the one thing that drives me to this day.

How can we get better at everything we do? That includes living, family, work, and play.

It's all about FOCUS - focus on the market and stay tuned in.

Corporate Blogging Insights From C-Suite

Interesting on Corporate blogging. There is a chart on why some organizations go into blogging and the comment, "If you can't beat'em, join'em" is part of what you see.

My question is; "Do they get it?" I am not sure.

Gaining customers is a great idea through becoming an authority within the industry works. Keeping customers and employees informed is a GREAT one. Employees will hold your feet to the fire and in today's age of transparency that is a good thing.

I will keep saying it, blogging (Twitter, Facebook, et al) is nothing but a conversation with your public and your friends.

Sales has always been about buying from friends. You need to create that rapport. You buy from people you believe in, people you trust, people you feel you know. Do you call them friends? Not necessarily however the demands are about the same.

You have to use these tools to show who you are as well as how you can help. You have to open that conversation not spiel.

Happy New Year 2011

I hope you are planning for a Very Happy and Great 2011 with of course good health, great wealth (of all kinds) and some adventure thrown in. Challenge yourself to be better, to grow and to learn. This is the way.

I also suggest that you add Seth Godin’s blog to your list of daily reading. I have talked about Seth before and have linked to him on many occasion an this New Year is one of them. Please check out “Maybe next year” (written Dec 30, 2010). It is a very worth while read.

This is a new year and a new day. There is a fresh start every day.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! – and yes I am shouting.

Leo Laporte Builds Empire With ‘This Week in Tech’ - NYTimes.com

Great article at the New York Times on what someone did with a blog, then a podcast, and now video.

Determination, enthusiasm, and a love for what he was doing. I believe him when he says he was not always sure where it was going to end up but he kept pushing the edge of the envelope and I think that is what we need to do.

Keep looking. It is out there and I guess that is what I am doing.
